Ever had a conversation in person or online that left you feeling misunderstood or unfairly attacked? Maybe it went the other way and you pounced on someone before fully understanding where they were coming from?

Most of us have been there – probably more frequently than we’d like – in the current political climate and runaway trend of ‘outrage culture’. However we got here, it’s not a peaceful, easy feeling (Reference credit: The Eagles – the band, not the football team).

So what is ‘Divided Together’?

Founded on November 7, 2018, it is a simple recognition that in spite of our divided political landscape and leadership, we are in this together. From there, the goal is simple enough:

To improve our ability to engage with people on different sides of the political divide by seeking understanding and building bridges instead of trying to win arguments or score points.

No, it’s not always easy, but we believe a good place to start is recognizing there is a person behind each perspective. Regardless of how vastly we may differ in our opinions, we have our common humanity.

When we recognize and respect each other’s humanity, even if we disagree, we can at least work towards a goal of being Divided Together.
